Painted wall hangings were a common form of decoration and display throughout the medieval and renaissance period.

Painted and gilded cloth, also known as counterfeit tapestry and stained cloth, was a cheap and versatile alternative to woven tapestry and could be produced for single occasions such as baptisms, funerals, religious festivals or civic celebrations.
It was particularly appropriate for heraldic display at tourneys and jousts, where 'gentlemen teem with desire for such distinctive things' as one medieaval cloth painting treatise puts it.

Hangings are available in a range of fabrics and come with hanging loops. They can be supplied lined and edged if required.
